Infants and the ASD Unit visit Coole Park:

Our wonderful pupils in Junior and Senior Infant and our ASD unit had a great day out in Coole Park this week. Their trip involved an outdoor picnic, scavenger hunt and plenty of walking around observing the sign of Autumn! What a magnificent way to bring learning outdoors!
Lough Cútra NS Jersey Day for GOAL

Today our school participated in the well known Jersey Day Fundraiser for GOAL. All our students wore their favourite Jersey to school. We had plenty of variety too!! We were delighted with the support and wish to thank all families for their contribution.
Junior Infants 2023-2024

A big welcome to our fabulous new Junior Infants pictured here with their teacher Ms Purcell. We look forward to creating wonderful memories during their time in Lough Cútra NS.
Galway Cross Country Championships
​
Our school had great fun participating in the Galway Cross Country Championships this week. We had 23 students participating from 3rd to 6th class. All students ran tremendously and we are very proud of them! Congratulations to our medal winners Darragh, Charlie and Aoife and to Saoirse who also gained a place in the final next week.

We had great fun showing off our fantastic costumes during our Halloween Catwalk this week! We had some great variety this year and lots of dancing!!
Science Week in Lough Cútra NS

Classes had some fun experimenting with materials last week as part of Science Week 2023. 3rd and 4th class incorporated their engineering skills to build bridges using various materials, while 5th and 6th class made their own rockets! They had great fun trying to see how far they could fly! See some of the photos below. More to follow!!

Credit Union Art Competition:

We were delighted to have a winner in the Credit Union Art Competition. We'll done to 2nd class pupil Ava Tuohy who came 2nd in U7s category.
Christmas performances​
We are really excited to be holding our Christmas performances next week. Junior-2nd class will perform their plays on the 19th December from 1.30pm, followed by our Christmas Fundraiser Raffle!! We will then look forward to our 3rd-6th class performing in St Anne's Church, Shanaglish on Wednesday 20th December! What a jam packed week ahead!!!!

Christmas Plays​
We were so excited to hold our Christmas Plays this week in the school on Tuesday and St Anne's Church Shanaglish on Wednesday. The children were so excited and really enjoyed performing in front of their parents and grandparents. A massive thank you to the teachers and SNAs for their hard work and well done to all our budding actors and singers!!! Congratulations to all the winners of hampers and vouchers in our raffle and a big thank you to all families for their contribution. We raised an incredible 2500 euro which will be used for purchasing extra resources for pupils.
ASD class visit Santa at Turoe Pet Farm

Pupils from our ASD class went on an amazing trip to visit Santa in Turoe Pet Farm last Thursday. They had plenty of fun and entertainment between Santa, elves and bouncy slides! A massive thank you to Ms Diviney for planning the trip.

Beautiful Artwork Brightening up the Halls in Lough Cútra NS!​
Some samples of our fabulous Artwork throughout the halls. Pupils have been busy learning about St Brigid, celebrating the Chinese New Year, practising their report writing and learning about different cultures and creating paper and tin foils sculptures in the senior class!

Some of our classes participated in a fun Easter Egg Hunt throughout the school grounds! There was great laughter and excitement!!

Engineer's Visit:
We were very fortunate to have a visit from three engineer's this week from Medtronic and the Rediscovery Centre. Pupils from 3rd-6th class participated in an engineer's workshop that introduced them to engineering concepts, processes and types of engineering. The hands-on activities tested their mathematical thinking, problem-solving skills,and spatial awareness skills, while also giving them a glympse into life as an engineer. The 90 minute activities included a range of engineering challenges from K’Nex constructions to building an earthquake-proof house
Seachtain na Gaeilge
Our school had a great week celebrating Seachtain na Gaeilge 2024! Pupils participated in a whole school buddy reading initiative where senior pupils read books as gaeilge to the Junior Classes. This was a great method of encouraging léitheoireacht in Irish. 3rd - 6th class completed a fun tráth na gcéist, displaying some of their general knowledge skills through Irish. They were very impressive! There were lots of Irish damhsa, canadh as gaeilge and tin whistles and fiddle playing in preparation for our Seachtain na Gaeilge school assembly! Well done to all involved and thanks to the teachers and SNAs for all their hard work.

Fantastic Art, Report writing and Project work brightening up the halls of our school!
Here is a look at some of the more recent work going on in our school . We have fantastic Art in our halls from Cherry Blossom paintings from 5th and 6th class to printed kangaroos and project work in our 1st and 2nd class. 3rd and 4th were busy completing report writing and learning about their development, comparing their clothes and changes in their appearance and bodies from when they were babies. Infants have also been comparing photos of themselves when they were young and seeing their huge growth and development! It's also great to see our achievements board filling up fast! Well done to everyone!
Biodiversity and Sustainability

As part of our Science Blast application, our school has become more aware of biodiversity and sustainability within our school. We have introduced a new Bug Hotel and Bird feeder into our school grounds. Children from 5th and 6th class collected materials for the hotel and with the help of Paula Gallagher, they created a safe and secure environment for bugs and insects. Our new birdfeeder has proven very popular!
Cyber Safety
​
Our senior classes participated in an important workshop on Cyber safety today. This workshop promoted positive thinking and the importance of brain development, while also alerting pupils to the dangers and impact of social media and cyber activity on both our minds, bodies and cognitive development. Thanks to Aoife Noone for delivering the talk.
Cumann na mBunscol Girls
​
A massive congratulations to our Cumann na mBunscoil Girls Camogie Team who made us very proud in reaching the final of their division in both football and camogie! They were unfortunate to be narrowly defeated in the football final, however they were successful in securing a place in the Cumann na mBunscol Camogie County Semi-Finals after a great victory in the final on Friday 10h May. Well done girls!!!
Primary School Basketball Blitz Champions: 2 in a row!
​
Well done to our 5th and 6th class who brought home the primary school basketball blitz cup to Lough Cútra NS for the second year in a row! We had further celebrations as two of our players received Most Valuable Player awards. Well done to Aoife Gallagher and Daragh Diviney on this great achievement! We are so proud of both our teams.
Cumann na mBunscol Camogie 7 a side Champions
​
We were delighted to win the final of our Cumann na mBunscol Camogie 7 a side tournament today! The team displayed incredible determination and endurance in a very high standard game of camogie. Massive thanks to Adrian Diviney and Ms Gill for all their work and to all our supporters who were great on the day!
Coding with Beebots
​
Infants and 1st and 2nd class were very busy this week testing out their coding skills using beebots! They had great fun trying to create programmes that enabled the beebots to move in certain directions. Well done for their great creativity!!
Drumming Workshop:
​
As part of our Wellness Week, we celebrated Musical Monday with an African Drumming Workshop. The children had great fun listening and responding to music and creating their own tunes. It was a great way for the children to experience wellbeing through music
Departing 6th class
​
Best wishes to our departing 6th class as they embark on their next educational journey. We hope their time in Lough Cútra NS was filled with fond memories. Go n-éirí an t-ádh libh.
